Meet MCC autism service dog Kim, her best friend Jai, and mom Suzie

MCC service dog Kim has changed the life of the Murphy family and her best friend Jai! Mom Suzie tells us about how My Canine Companion has impacted their lives.

“Kim came into our life as a puppy in the puppy training programme in November 2019. Jai was 6 years old at the time.

We now feel that they have grown up together, and become great buddies.

Jai has severe intellectual disabilities and is also non verbal, but together they seem to have found their own way to communicate and have fun together in their happy world. They play together, share toys, have games of chase both inside the house and outside in Jai’s sensory garden. They both sit and look out the front windows together. If Jai is doing something wrong or is even feeling sad Kim will bark to alert us.

Jai is a runner and a flight risk when outdoors and in open spaces. Jai just doesn’t see and understand the danger.

Since Kim is now qualified, while outside, she is attached to Jai and keeps him safe . We can now go and walk along the beach, without worry that Jai will run off. We go to the woods, shopping centres and have plenty of family days out.

Kim has totally changed our family life. She helps us relax and enjoy the family moments knowing she is keeping Jai safe and happy.

Thank you MCC!”
